9A-Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Who: Through my interviews, I learned additional information about who would actually be seen as outside of my intended market. I interviewed 2 people who describe themselves as “environmentally conscious”. Surprisingly, both of them mentioned they would change the computer they would buy even if the computer did have a recycling program attached to it.

Then a father who is budgeting to buy his son a computer for college. He brought up an interesting point saying it should be the individual's responsibility that a computer does get recycled in a proper way whatever way that may be. He wants computer recycling to be as effortless as possible. Another interviewee continued to mention the issue of the fee. He referenced how Best Buy has a nearly free program to recycle computers or more electronics.

However, my last interviewee pointed out that if the fee was low enough he would make special arrangements to have their computers picked up and taken to a new recycling program. He did appreciate the idea of stopping any chance of identity theft. Having a pickup service for computers was well received by all but one interviewee. That one person did mention that they would use the pickup service but it would not make a large impact on where he chooses to recycle his computers.

What: The what is still the same. The opportunity to recycle computers in a way that does not harm the environment. In addition, choosing not selling hard drives ends identity theft.

Why: The why has not changed. Computers become old and need to be disposed of. (to allow for more options besides the programs that are in the news for not being good programs). However, it is being applied differently. For example, the two interviewees explained they would change their computer recycling decisions based on the computer recycling program. They also appreciated the idea of the barcode system. They pointed out that even if a person may not use the feature having it is a strong symbol of the social responsibility.

Who: Inside the Boundary
People that are concerned about the environmental effects of their computer
People who want their computers picked up to be recycled
Outside the Boundary
Anyone not concerned about the environment
Someone who wants to recycle more than just a computer
People who want their computers picked up to be recycled

What: Inside the Boundary
To eliminate computer parts and toxins coming from computer recycling from entering soil or rivers
Get rid of old computers and people not knowing how
End of identity theft
Making it easy to fulfill an environmental responsibility
To trust computer recycling programs
Outside the Boundary
To eliminate all e-waste from the environment

Why: Inside the Boundary
Toxins are entering into the soil and rivers
There is a stigma that there are no “good” recycling programs now

  2. Hello Trenton, your interviews make a lot of senses, I think first person representative most "environmentally conscious". and in both interviews, they all talked about responsibility or society responsibility, this is a very unpredictable point when the plan processes. the trucking service can give most people safety to provide the plan. In conclusion, I believe it will be a perfect plan.

  3. Hello Trenton,

The interview you had with the father purchasing the computer for his son his thoughts about recycling being part of the customer responsibility is spot on. I too believe this however with people barley recycling normal things like plastic and paper it would be difficult to make this a trend. The only way to get people on this would to make it 100% effortless. I also think advertising the identity theft feature of clearing all personal information correctly would have more consumers using your service.
