6A - Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

  1. Economic trend: Helping companies recruit high skilled workers to replace the baby boomers that are retiring within their company.

  2. There is a prediction that the rise in the number of nurses and nurse assistants needed will be over 10% by 2024.
  3. The two main industries affected by this worker shortage would be Retail companies and the Health clinics.
  4. It would be relatively difficult to exploit because many health clinics already have a designated recruiting team to attract prospects.
  5. I saw this opportunity because I thought about the way hospitals and non-traditional organizations recruit. These entities recruit in a way that is not similar to the way high-end companies such as Sony or Microsoft recruit.

  1. Economic trend: Financial assistant service for millennials
  1. It is widely seen that the limiting factor for millennials to have kids is the fear of financial instability.
  2. Most likely to be the customer is Millennial couples that are on the fence about having a baby.
  3. Relatively difficult because in America financial independence is seen as one of the last things people will ask help for. In addition, many Americans will choose to discuss private financial matters with their bank because that is where their money is attached.
  4. I saw this opportunity after having to make some adjustments to my student loans and my credit card. I felt like their should have been more of discussion about my options but there was only a select amount directly through my bank.

  1. Regulatory trend: Increase funding for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
    1. This law allows for gifts to be given to the US Department of the Interior with the intention to help U.S Fish and Wildlife Services.
    2. Any supporter of the U.S Fish and Wild Services and anyone that wants to give back to the environment would be willing to make donations.
    3. Easy to exploit this opportunity since many people want to give back to the environment.
    4. I grew up down the street from a nature preserve and they always are desperate for donations.
  2. Professional Photography for Congress and the Senate
    1. The President and members of Congress or the Senate would still want a portrait of themselves to hang up in their offices but can not have that portrait painted because of the newly passed law.
    2. Any federal employee that wants a portrait but can not have one painted.
    3. Easy to exploit because portraits in the White House and Congress this is a tradition.
    4. I remember seeing on the news that federal employees had huge painted portraits of themselves but created in the less economically efficient way possible.

  1. Trenton, you have chosen great economic and regulatory trends. I am happy to see the specific one in reference to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service. One I had no idea this was something that was even in progress. Two, that important regulations are being put in place for wildlife. I think being able to accept gifts are going to make it a lot easier to make changes rather than waiting for regulations and bills being passed and all government funds to go through. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Hi Trenton,

I think you chose some great and interesting opportunities and trends. I had no idea that portraits were such a big thing in the Congress and Senate. I personally wouldn't want a portrait of myself hanging up in my office. Overall, I think you did a good job at explaining these trends and opportunities to where people would be able to understand even if they had no prior knowledge.
