Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson
What surprised me the most was that Steve Jobs admitted that his biggest failure was not a professional one but a social one. He was disappointed in the way he handled accidentally getting his girlfriend at the time pregnant. This was most surprising to me because in the media Steve Jobs was always portrayed as a person absorbed with their work beyond anything else.
What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
I admire that he saw opportunities that no one else could see and when he saw them he did everything in his power to get them done. He was known by his team as someone that had a distorted reality because of this trait.
What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
I did not admire the fact he was an aggressive impression manager. He never micromanaged his teams but he did make his standards known by being aggressive. This aggression was on the verge of inappropriate in many instances.
Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
This a well-known failure that he was forced out of Apple. Then later came back to lead the company again. However, during that time he became a chairman for Pixar animation. This was also the time that he admitted gave him the most opportunities to make him into a better person.
What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
Jobs had the work ethic and imagination. In everything that he was involved in had those two aspects because of his influence.
Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
I was confused with the way Steve Jobs book opened with the way he asked the author to write the book. In that section, there was an explanation about the author’s relation to Jobs rather than about Jobs himself. This was confusing because other parts elaborated on the emotions Steve Jobs was conflicted with.
If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
I would ask Steve Jobs about where he believes he got his imagination from. I would ask him that because I think if I can understand why he thinks of the ideas he does I could learn to have imagination ourselves.
The second question I would ask “what is an experience that he believes everyone should have besides from failure?” I would ask this to have that experience to better enrich my life.
For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
Steve Jobs opinion of hard work to is to take it straight on. He was never a stranger to hard work and wanted to put the time in every chance he could. He would, in turn, make everything else the second priority because of it. I actually share that opinion. Whenever I have to work hard I get after it. I want to put in the work. I want to make the project the best it can be.
Hi Trenton,
ReplyDeleteAwesome synopsis and reflection on Jobs. I actually had no idea that he built up Pixar as well as Apple, clearly the man had an incredibly gifted mind and was exceptionally creative. I too would like to know where he gets his imagination from.
Hello Trenton
ReplyDeleteI also read STEVE JOBS. You said "He saw opportunities that no one else could see", I totally agree with you. normal people works for now, he works for the future, it is also called "creating" I think. I think he does not only give up when he had a trouble in his business; for example, Apple fired him. but he was also doing very well and became a chairman for Pixar animation. this is a good point we can learn.
