1) You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?
I am Trenton Cimijotti and I am studying Marketing at the University of Florida. I am a problem solver in many ways. I look for problems and solutions in the world. I enjoy being observant and solving problems not just around me but around the world. This does not match well for sleep when I am also a subtle perfectionist. I can never be content with simply solving the problem. I believe the problem should be solved both most efficiently and effectively. I believe both those traits would spill over into my business concept. I believe I would give this business my complete attention if I were to start it. I would spend almost 24/7 looking at ways to improve everything from the day to day operations to the structure of the organization.
2) What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).
I am offering a service that will recycle computers in an environmentally safe way and protect the personal information on the hard drive. This helps people be confident that they are not contributing to waste in landfills when disposing of their computer and keeps the peace of mind knowing that their personal information is safe. In addition, I want this service to stand as a statement that recycling computers do not have to break the bank and keep your personal information safe.
3) Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?
This service is open to anyone of legal age because of liability. However, many people want this program to very convenient and require a very little amount of their time. They also they either care about price and environmental responsibility. If the price is low enough then any consumer will spend the money to get rid of their company in the right way. People who care about the environment will pay larger amounts to do the environmentally friendly action.
Companies would want this service because they would have a trusted way to get rid of their hard drives that contain critical company information. In addition, many companies have a sense of environmental responsibility and this program would help fulfill that responsibility.
4) Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its value to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.
The opportunity cost of using the service is the money paid. We have to prove to our consumers that the computer recycling program is worth the money. We will prove that recycling computers has benefits of saving private information from ending up in the wrong hands, convenient, and making people feel like they made the world a better place. This service would be professional to prove a way to trust the business their personal information is safe no matter the person and that the computer is actually recycled.
5) What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?
What sets me apart from everyone else is stressing the price and proving the opportunity cost is worth it for my customers. Many computer recycling programs are not trustworthy because they allow their computers to end up in third world countries. Our program allows for someone to watch the stages the computer goes through as it is recycled. This also will include the location of the computer. Our program will allow for pick up for a low price. Many other recycling programs do not offer this or they offer this for a high price. In addition, our program guarantees that the information on the hard drive of each computer will be deleted properly.
In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker / out-of-joint with the others.
I feel that my organization of the business concept is strong. The elements fit together well. The solutions to the consumer needs are clear and price efficient. However, I feel that I still would have the same weakness as before. The weakness is that I doubt that I could apply this concept. The needed resources for this business to exist would be complex and expensive to start up. However, on the bright side, the after the initial startup cost the company would have hypothetically steady profits.
For the "feedback memo" -- please summarize at least two main points that you took away from the feedback you received. Also, please describe how you incorporated the feedback into this idea napkin.
I took away the need to stress the cost of the service since that is easily the biggest point that decides whether a person will use the service or not. I did address that in my napkin idea by stating that we must advertise the price to use the program is small. In addition, I had to explain why the age for the program must be over 18. This is because there is a certain liability for the computer. However, there would be ways around this. For example, one way would be to have an adult hand off the computer for the minor.
Hi Trenton,
ReplyDeleteAwesome analysis overall, but don't sell yourself short on the feasibility of the idea. All it takes is one inspired investor to take a chance on this idea and more importantly you for this business to come to fruition and ultimately become a success. It's always good to be realistic, but as they say, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Hello Trenton,
ReplyDeleteFrom my own experience, I can say that your service is incredible. I know that every business person, student, housewife etc, basically anyone with a computer can utilize this. At some point, we have passcodes saved to out computer and so much more sensitive information is put into these devices. Having a service that cleans and recycles can actually help in cyber fraud and really just help people sleep knowing they did all they could to clear their computers.
Hi Trenton,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I really like your service. I believe everyone with a computer will like it. Just as you said, I hope this service will keep the personal information safely no matter the computer is recycled or not. I really hope this service will be broadly used one day in the future.
